Introducing Surface Area:
Surface Area is a pioneering leap forward in the integration of blockchain technology with multi-agent artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs), aiming to revolutionize the way users and developers interact with blockchain networks. Surface Area is a blockchain platform that allows users to interact with the blockchain using natural language. For example, if a user prompted “I’d like to lend my crypto”, Surface Area would index the best possible risk-adjusted return on lending protocols like Aave and execute that task on behalf of the user. Here are some of the most common use-cases for Surface Area:
- Chain abstraction: Tasks that span across different blockchains have a low success rate because the varying chain primitives and number of infrastructure providers involved introduces complexity into the user experience. Namely in the form of subsequent waiting periods and separate dependency workflows that must be finished (e.g. create a wallet on the destination chain) before the original task is completed. Surface Area consolidates complex cross chain workflows with little to no user intervention so that anyone can confidently navigate new blockchain ecosystems.
- Consolidating primitives: Multi-step transactions are becoming the norm now more than ever before. This involves the user signing multiple transactions and oftentimes getting redirected to different providers when he or she is completing their desired action. Surface Area provides a basis for developers to bundle multi step transactions with different infrastructure providers into a single intent. An example of this would be bundling a dex, bridge, and transfer all in a single approval flow using natural language.
- Developer experience chatbot: In the age of modular blockchains and appchains the set up process for managed services are not always straight forward. This includes setting up RPCs, bridges, etc. Surface Area provides developers a helping hand when setting up and bootstrapping new blockchains after deploying via a RaaS provider or otherwise.
- Multimodal experience: Existing protocols in Web3 do a good job of offering a simple user interface that are used to satisfy a user’s intent. But it oftentimes requires some learning on the user’s part when a new version of the protocol is released or the frontend is refreshed. Despite these changes, the user’s intent oftentimes doesn’t change. Using Surface Area, a protocol can offer different type of user experience for users. This includes interfacing with an agent who can carry out protocol functionality using natural language. This user workflow opens the door for voice transcribed intents for mobile users. In this way, Surface Area is providing developers a new toolkit for building alternative user interfaces to help better assist their users with completing read or write actions.
- Yield farming: DeFi has made access to new financial asset classes more accessible to consumers across the world. The most sophisticated of trading tools or yield farming tools that help automate very manual processes still remain gated by the most sophisticated of organizations. Surface Area provides protocol owners a better way for giving access more broadly for automated yield farming. An example of this would be using Surface Area to provide access to a daily scheduler that helps a user optimize their yield for assets that are given to different lending pools.
- Airdrop farming: Airdrops have become common for protocols nearing their public token launch. Without the programming skills to set up advanced tooling and automation, most users are left to manually complete workflows needed to qualify for an airdrop event. Surface Area levels the playing field so that non-technical users can use ordinary language to seamlessly iterate through more airdrop farming workflows. More concretely, a user could prompt existing agents to set up an on-chain scheduler to automate such tasks.
- Multichain deployments: The number of chains continue to proliferate, creating silos of users and liquidity. A unique opportunity exists for decentralized applications, games, etc. to deploy on multiple different blockchains to maximize KPIs (e.g. utilization, volume, etc.). Surface Area gives protocol owners a new way to expand to new chains using prose.
